There was a curious salmon-fishing or capture-and-storage point built into the side of the bridge, trapping them as they navigated the river. It was a dreary, cold day, with little colour or light. A short distance from the aire we saw a bustling trade fair was underway and watched as unimpressed cows were bought and reluctantly loaded into trucks, with three men desperately pushing, pulling and otherwise bullying them. We parked easily in the town’s spacious aire down by the river, conveniently payable overnight but not during daylight hours. The next we planned to go and see, only a few miles away, was Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. Maybe we see you again and if not I hope you have a good summer.Moving on from overnighting in the Domaine de Chirac’s farm, we continued with our now familiar theme of visiting beautiful French villages. And last but not least: I would be nice that next time you come to us straight away so that we can solve things while you're there and we can help you or explain things. Third: it's true sometimes a baby cries and sometimes there is a mole (not a plague!), also there are birds, some times even a deer or a dagger. It' s basic but clean, like we mentioned it on our website. The showers are at 37 degrees as they should be and the toilets are cleaned twice a day. You were claiming it the other way round?! Second: we have 5 toilets and 7 showers. That seems pretty fair and normal to me, since we have to send you the confirmation and you have to pay half of the amount within two weeks. First of all you have to make a reservation at least two weeks before arrival. …ĭear Pieternel, I am happy you liked our beautifull location, but I have to react on some of your remarks because some of them are simply not true. So, if you're fine with the facilities being as they are, go, as the location at the river is beautiful. I guess it was just not what we were looking for, besides the location. This in addition to a mole under our tent (apparently the whole campsite is troubled by moles) kept us up most nights. We also had the unfortunate experience of being surrounded by a few families (which we don't mind at all in and of itself!), whose smaller children (babies) were screaming quite a lot during the night. When it's super hot, the temp of the water is fine, but when it's a bit colder outside, the water was not warm enough (but we love hot showers :). There are only 2 toilets (per gender often with no toilet paper) and although there are 6 showers and 1 family shower, they are very narrow hardly any space to put your things or even to turn around and dry off comfortably. They are also quite far from the camp site (unless you're pitched at their 'passing through' field, which is not at the river and has a lot less shade). Facilities for showering and toilets are not very spacy nor very clean. However, in retrospect we wouldn't have stayed for 5 nights. We went to the Padirac caves, which we recommend, truly beautiful and impressive (book online in advance in high season). We went on a beautiful 3.5 hour canoeing trip (tip: bring food for lunch and stop on the way), which started and ended at the camp site - perfect! You can order bread for the morning and otherwise there's lots of other info on what to do in the surrounding area. The camp sites are very large, with lots of space and enough trees for much needed shade. We were quite happy with the place we got, with a view of the beautiful Dordogne river and lots of shade. When we arrived we were welcomed in a friendly manner, everything very relaxed and informal. We reserved beforehand, though this was a bit complicated because initially they wrote we were only able to reserve 2 weeks in advance (we emailed on the 23rd of July for arrival on the 6th of August) but would make an exception for us (?), but when we asked to have a place at the river they emailed that those had been reserved "ages ago". In terms of location (right at the river Dordogne and the cute village Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne) recommended, but we would not go again.
